Kings Co-Op

The regeneration of Brisbane’s showgrounds sees pavilions and food outlets transform into the social, creative and community retail concept, Kings Co-op.

Our design links the cultural heritage and urban future aspirations of the Brisbane Showgrounds masterplan. The transformed space incorporates rescued materials from key warehouse and pavilion structures within the showgrounds precinct. It includes a ‘destination’ food and beverage concept, studio spaces for the creative industries, childcare centre and a multi-level car park.

We also created an art piece for the car park screen involving custom injection moulded clip-on pixels manually applied to the mesh cladding to create bespoke urban façade art. The design demonstrates an innovative approach to turning a simple structural form into an aesthetic contribution while maintaining the airflow, view and natural light requirements of the building.

This work is part of a $2.9 billion showgrounds regeneration to breathe new life into some of the most-loved structures and meeting places already on-site.
