The Hub Hornby

Boasting an Enviro-Mark Gold accreditation, The Hub, Hornby is a sustainable face of retailing in southern Christchurch.

Buchan has worked on the transformation of the centre since 2002, with the scope broadening significantly in 2012 after a land swap with the Christchurch City Council which saw the leasable area of the centre almost double. It allowed significant public amenity including an expansive food court and community gathering space, a new northern entry, public facilities, increased car parking and rationalising of the bus interchange.

A natural, neutral, low maintenance material palette simplifies the building forms both outside and inside allowing the function of the centre to shine through. Culturally significant artworks dominate areas normally given over to advertising. An aesthetically pleasing exterior and highly functional interior ensure the success of the tenants who have chosen to cement the centre’s growing catchment.

The finished development shows many high-level aesthetic and environmental touches. This creates a very contemporary experience for customers and a strong point of difference from other similar destinations.
