Westpoint Blacktown

The recent upgrade and extensive brand remix of Westpoint in Sydney’s west serves as a textured canvas, inviting exciting new retailers to leave their mark, and a welcoming space for locals to gather and connect.

Buchan worked alongside client QIC to reinvigorate the Centre, designing a space that captures the attention of a growing community.

Led by Buchan’s interiors team, the project involved repurposing the existing 20,000 sqm footprint, which spans two levels of the Centre. The design rejects the typical ‘white plasterboard mall’, instead using textural elements and abundant greenery to create a space that is full of life and character.

The space was revitalised with pixelated terrazzo floor tiles, which lighten as the flooring radiates from the atrium and away from the natural light. The textured surfaces absorb the light from the atrium, softening the public space. Newly installed frameless glass balustrades recede into the background, against the large-scale planters filled with verdant landscaping that line the void edge.

“The upgrade symbolises the maturing of Westpoint as the core of Blacktown’s CBD and an investment in realigning the Centre to reflect the needs of the growing, diverse local community. The re-design enhances accessibility and creates an environment which feels safe and welcoming.” Catherine Carmody Investment Manager QIC
