Invercargill Central

Invercargill Central has received another accolade, the 2024 Property Council New Zealand Excellence and Best in Category Retail Property Award.

Designed by Buchan for Invercargill Central Limited, the expansive 15,137 sqm site has been transformed into a cohesive, masterplanned precinct with curated retail, hospitality, entertainment and commercial zones, connected by new and existing pedestrian links.

“From concept through to built form, our projects showcase successful outcomes achieved through good design and effective collaboration. Our work is an expression of our vision to positively influence life in our cities for the benefit of people and the planet.” – Raylene McEwan, Buchan Principal

Judges’ comments

“Invercargill Central stands as a testament to innovative design and deliberate development,” says Leonie Freeman, Property Council New Zealand chief executive. “This precinct breathes life back into the heart of New Zealand’s most southern city, providing locals with a community hub with public social spaces to enjoy for years to come.”

Andrew Evans, Property Industry Awards chief judge says, “Invercargill Central has been a high-level operation from start to finish, and it is clear from the big picture details right down to the small-scale elements. The team involved applied years of experience to execute a successfully curated retail hub desperately needed to revive the city.”
