Global design practice Buchan continues to expand its health team with the recent appointment of Edward Armstrong as a Senior Associate, bolstering the firm’s capability as it looks ahead to meet growing demand nationally.
Armstrong is a design-focused architect with 20 years’ experience across all aspects of project delivery. He is excited to be joining Buchan at a time of opportunity and evolution in the health sector.
“Contemporary healthcare design requires clinical design expertise and the ability to incorporate public realm and placemaking strategies,” said Armstrong. ” Buchan has extensive experience in projects that celebrate the public realm and I’m excited to be adding to that capability.”
“As an architect, I aim to create places of healing that are connected to their environment and community. Contributing to projects which form a crucial part of community infrastructure is what generates meaning for me as a practitioner.”
Armstrong’s experience in health architecture sits alongside work on large and complex projects in other sectors. Projects he has contributed to include the $1.1b New Coomera Hospital, the $260m Eurobodalla Regional Hospital and the $35m Rockhampton Museum of Art (RMoA), which received The F D G Stanley Award for Public Architecture in the 2023 AIA Queensland Architecture Awards.
He enjoys mentoring the next generation of designers and is active within the profession as a volunteer at the Abedian School of Architecture, Bond University. Armstrong also volunteers his time to the Arts in Health Program at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Buchan Principal and global Health Sector Lead Sandra Stewart welcomed Armstrong to the team. “Edward is a talented designer who will bring new perspectives to our health projects nationally. We look forward to his contribution as we continue to develop hospital and healthcare precincts with our clients.”
